HISTORY
Dr. Gelcoat was founded on the Great Lakes in the early 1980s as a one-man operation which grew in a short period of time to a company of several employees. The name was coined by David Gardner of RCR Yachts in Youngstown, NY. When David observed Mike, Sr. in full "lab attire with mask and gloves" matching a gelcoat color on the side of a Hunter Yacht, he referred to him as "Dr. Gelcoat." From that point on, the name stuck.
Dr. Gelcoat's work history includes US Coastguard boats from the 22' Whalers of Desert Storm in Sandusky, OH to the 50' Motorlife boat in Oswego, NY, NY State Police boats, US Customs and Border Partrol boats, and several western New York counties' Sheriff boats.
